Imo workers wait for Owelle for show down. Okorocha booed at Workers day celebration

 Imo workers, Tuesday threw caution to the wind with most of them besieging the Stadium venue of their rally with sachets of pure water and whistles with some of them revealing that they had come with the whistles to blow them when the governor expected to read an address at the event would begin to do that, to make the place rowdy and indeed throw sachets of pure water on him to show the extent of their anger over certain policies of the day as they concerned them. As if the Okorocha knew what the worker had planned, he stayed away and sent not his deputy but the secretary to the state government, Prof. Ahthony Anwuka to go and read his address, and the workers has no option left for them than to pour their anger on the SSG, by not only walking out on him but also booing him, especially when the address he read on behalf of the governor did not talk about the policies the workers had taken exception to, for which their leaders have been meeting with the government representatives to iron out issues.

In the address read by the SSG, the governor, was workers, "after a carefull consideration of all the issues raised by Labour, I have promised to rub mind with all the labour unions in the State in order to find amicable and comprehensive resolution of all contentious issues in the State".

Anwuka futher told the workers that "the governor as a good comrade requires understanding and cooperation of all labour unions as they collaborate with the State Government in the delivery of the much desired dividends dividends of democracy to the goods people of the State", the with the workers appeared to have been disappointed with what was read to them, with the issues they had expected to be treated not reflected in the address, with most of them walking out while others began to boo the SSG and other blowing their whistles.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria labour Congress, NLC, Chief Reginald Anyadike said their greatest worries where the fourth tier government imposition of uniform dress code in the public service without allowance attached to it, commercialization of ministries, departments and agencies, and the redeployment programme that would see public servants being sent to the communities to serve under the native council.

Anyandik said, although the government has made education free but it has not been put in place, there were still prevalent lapses, advising the government to look into the issuse of reconstruction of school blocks, provision of infrastructure and running cost to head teachers as well as listen to the ideas of others, adding that in view of the role played by the organized labour in the election that brought him into power, the workers ought to be extremely happy now
